Girl, 12 charged with manslaughter over pensioner Bhim Kohli's death
Kohli, 80, died in hospital in September after being injured in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, Leicester.
A 12-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of pensioner Bhim Kohli, who died after an alleged attack while walking his dog in a park near his home.
Kohli, 80, died in hospital on 2 September after being injured in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, Leicester, the previous evening.
The girl appeared on Monday before Leicester Youth Court and was ordered to appear at the city’s Crown Court on 3 February.
The defendant, who cannot be named because of her age, was granted bail after a short hearing.
A 15-year-old boy has already been charged with Kohli's murder.
Here's what we know about the Bhim Kohli case so far.
What we know
Kohli was walking his dog in the park when he was the victim of a "serious assault" on the evening of 1 September, police said at the time.
Investigators said the alleged attack took place close to the entrance of Franklin Park in Bramble Way, adding that a group fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
Kohli died in Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham the following day. An inquest opened and adjourned last month was told a trial in the case is listed to start in February next year.
The hearing was also told a preliminary cause of death had previously been given as a neck injury, pending further tests.

Boy, 15, charged with murder
A 15-year-old boy charged with Kohli’s murder three days after the incident is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday, where he will enter a plea, according to the BBC.
A provisional trial date has been set for 17 February.
The boy was aged 14 when police charged him on 4 September. Appearing at Leicester Crown Court on 5 September, the judge told him he would be remanded in custody until "at least until the plea and trial preparation hearing unless an application is made in the meantime".
What the family said
In a statement following Kohli's death, his family said: “Our hearts have been completely broken. He really was such a loving, caring person whose life was centred around his family."
Painting a picture of a man devoted to his family, they said: “Bhim was a loving husband, dad and grandad. He was also a son, brother and uncle.
“He adored his grandkids with all his heart and loved spending time with them. He really was such a loving, caring person whose life was centred around his family.”
“He has always been a very hardworking man and even at the age of 80 he was still very active.
“One of his great passions was his allotment, he would go every day to tend to his plots and was so proud of them. He also enjoyed walking the family dog Rocky on the park many times a day.
“Bhim loved to laugh. He was always very happy and talkative, the joker of the family and always loved to outsmart us with a smile."
