The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar has revealed that he “[doesn’t] miss playing the character” of Raj much anymore.

The hit CBS sitcom saw Nayyar play the character of astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali for 12 years running, before it aired its final episode last year.

Speaking to Metro, Nayyar said: “I probably don’t miss playing the character that much anymore. You know what I mean?”

“I did so much of it and got it out of my system,” he added. “But I really miss being in front of the audience.”

The actor heaped praise on series creator Chuck Lorre, along with his former cast and crew, stating that they had created a “safe” atmosphere on set that made work a joy.

“It was probably one of the only places in the entire universe where I felt absolutely free to be myself without any kind of outside influence, because it was such a safe place,” he explained.

And he added that while he might not miss playing the part of Raj any longer, he felt differently about the whole on-set experience.

“Every day on that set was being at home,” he said. “It’s not just [that] I miss the actors. I miss all of the crew, I miss all of the writers, I miss it. It was such a happy place, always so happy!”
