What a Big Mac Does to Your Body in 1 Hour

Do you consider a Big Mac as a lunch possibility? You know that it isn’t healthy? You don’t care? Well, then I can also tell what it does to your body. As long as you don’t eat it with the believe that it is healthy food. Bon Appetite – here is your Big Mac.

1. The Initial Impact

Due to biological reasons and the evolution of our bodies, we generally tend to choose food that has a high amount of calories. Hence, our brains rewards us by realising dopamine, which makes us feel happy. Guess who knows that too? – Your favourite golden arches. The same process happens when taking drugs, such as cocaine – interesting huh?

Surely one burger alone won’t kill you. However, the entire chemical process is geared towards compulsive eating. A regular Big Mac contains around 540 calories and raises your blood sugar to a level that is far from normal. Guess what – that’s just the beginning? Still hungry? Or do you want some healthy food alternatives now?

2. The Sugar Attack

Burgers like the Big Mac have very high levels of fructose corn syrup and sodium, which both are highly addictive and make you crave more. Should I mention that those ingredients are also the main reasons for obesity, diabetes and heart diseases?

3. Salt All Over You

Your favourite Big Mac comes with 970 milligrams of sodium, which is a huge amount of salt and triggers instant dehydration. Please don’t think you can beat that with the accompanying soft drink, as you only trigger the second sugar attack.

Dehydration mimics the symptoms of hunger and triggers the feeling of wanting more. The high intake of salt is also really heavy for your kidneys to deal with. Here begins the circle – sodium overdose – heart beats faster – blood pumping through your veins – high blood pressure. Do I need to tell you what happens if you have a weak heart? Don’t take the risk and try healthy food alternatives.

4. I Want More!

You just had two Big Macs, but you are hungry again after 30 minutes? You ask why? Simply because your body lost total control of your blood sugar levels. The result of that is you carving for more. Let me explain how.

When eating high calorie foods, such as a Big Mac, your insulin brings down your glucose levels, telling you body that you need more. The high fructose corn syrup (especially in the bun of burger) is extremely quickly absorbed by the GI tract. This causes the insulin to spike – your hunger pains are now even worse.

5. Trying to Digest

Burgers take a lot longer to digest than other foods, simply because they are a lot greasier. A normal digestion period ranges between 1-2 days – a Big Mac can easily take 3 days.

Don’t get me wrong – I won’t tell you what to eat. But if you want to include Big Macs, or similar bombs, into your regular diet, then you should at least know what you are getting into. You might want to try some healthy food. Bon Appetite.
