Biloxi Pier Damaged as Storm Cristobal Ravages Gulf Coast

A pier in Biloxi, Mississippi, was damaged as powerful waves and high tides from Tropical Storm Cristobal struck the Gulf Coast on June 7. Storm surge and flooding were reported in several parts of the state as the storm made landfall.

The National Hurricane Center had issued a storm-surge warning from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and warned that tropical storm-force winds were expected along the northern Gulf Coast from central Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle. A tropical storm warning was in effect for the area.

However the storm was later expected to weaken as it passed over southeastern Louisiana, the center said.
