Black Panther star Letitia Wright says all-female Avengers movie will happen: ‘It’s only a matter of time’

Black Panther star Letitia Wright has said that she believes it is just a “matter of time” before the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets an all-female Avengers movie.

Wright played Shuri, the younger sister of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), in the 2018 MCU hit, later reprising the role for brief appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Wright said that she is eager to feature in a female-fronted MCU team-up movie.

“I don’t think we have to fight for it,” she said. “Victoria Alonso [Marvel Studios' EVP of Production] is very strong about spearheading it, alongside Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios President]. It’s only a matter of time before they do it.”

What’s more, Wright named the heroes she would like to see appear in the film: Okoye (Danai Gurira), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson).

“[It would] definitely have to have Captain Marvel, definitely,” she added.

The MCU has historically faced criticism for its lack of female-fronted films. Captain Marvel, the 21st entry in the hit blockbuster franchise, was the first to feature a female lead (not counting Scarlett Johansson’s role as part of the Avengers ensemble cast).

Avengers: Endgame featured a brief scene in which several Marvel women team up during the climactic battle, which was celebrated by some fans but criticised by others, as the film was otherwise focused primarily on men.
