Blair Underwood will star in NBC's new 'Ironside'

The American network has chosen Blair Underwood as the lead for its remake of the 1960s series, "Ironside." The actor will play a police inspector in a wheelchair.

Blair Underwood will play "Ironside" in the remake. The actor who has featured in "Sex and the City", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Event" will play Robert T. Dacier, a police inspector in San Francisco who has been confined to a wheelchair since he was shot in the back.

"The Sopranos" screenwriter Michael Caleo, who will also be responsible for the screenplay of Luc Besson's next film "Malavita", will be in charge of the NBC remake. The author intends to maintain the abrasive, almost sarcastic tone of the series that was broadcast from 1967 to 1975 on the same network.
