Blinken says at least 4,500 Americans have been evacuated from Afghanistan, estimates another 1,500 remain in the country

During a press conference on Wednesday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at least 4,500 U.S. citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan since Aug. 14 and that approximately 1,500 are still there. According to Blinken, the U.S. has been in touch with 500 of those people and has given them instructions on how to safely get to the airport in Kabul, and is actively trying to reach the remaining 1,000 people.
