Daily Destination: Lake Louise, Canada

When I road-tripped across Banff National Park, the striking emerald-green Lake Louise was a highlight, as were the area’s numerous waterfalls and frequent wildlife sightings. I was also struck by how close to the road the sheer Canadian Rockies were and how unspoiled it all was.

Summer-y outdoor activities are still on offer during the Lake Louise Fall Festival. You can go on a guided hike to Bow Glacier Falls for yoga. You can learn all about bears from noted naturalist and TV personality Casey Anderson. There are also photography contests and packages, horseback rides, hikes to the top of Mt. Whitehorn and gondola rides. Or strike out on your own to explore the region’s lakes, glaciers, mountain views and moraines (recommended: Valley of the Ten Peaks).

Many of the activities and specials are focused around the incomparably located Fairmont Lake Louise hotel. But all kinds of accommodations are involved in the action, including the Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, a family-owned property on the edge of Bow Lake.
