Attacking cougar meets a skateboard in Banff, Alberta

Man knocked to ground, fights off cougar with his board in Banff, Alta.

A man in Banff, Alberta found an unusual defense mechanism against a cougar that attacked him late last week: his skateboard.

The Canadian Press reports that a man was strolling along, listening to music when a cougar leaped onto his back and knocked him over. If your bet was on the cougar in this fight between board and cat, it's time to pay up.

A conservation manager told the news wire the man turned around and smacked the cougar with his skateboard, leading the animal to give up the attack.

It's very unusual for a cougar to attack humans, the conservation manager said. This is the second time area residents have reported seeing a cougar in recent days but the last attack was on a deer in the park, according to CBC. The Banff area is on alert for sightings of this cougar or any others that might be stalking the streets.

Banff residents, now might be the time pull that skateboard out of the garage and practice your kick-flips.

Meanwhile, a giant badger seen near a school is reportedly causing "hysteria" among teenage girls in Kent, Britain. Kent Online quoted the mother of a student at Folkestone School for Girls saying students were scared to encounter a large badger that had been seen wandering school grounds.

The school said it only had one report of a confused-looking badger walking toward the school. But the students, or their wild imaginations, have taken it further.
