Best 5 kids’ outings in Singapore

Riding a roller coaster, swinging from treetops, executing triple lutz jumps, keeping your little one occupied is easy in Singapore

Splish splash, let the littles ones make a mess and utterly exhaust each other.

A tired child is a happy child.

And Singapore has plenty of distractions to keep your young one active and ultimately exhausted.

Ride the rides at Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore is a no-brainer to occupy those long school holiday hours and come December 3, there's a new ride to queue for.

TRANSFORMERS The Ride debuts on December 3. Using realistic high-definition 3-D media, sophisticated visual effects, and an elaborate roaming flight simulator system, the ride transports guests into the world of Transformers as members of the Human-Autobot alliance N.E.S.T.

Otherwise, take a boat ride with the cast of "Madagascar" on the "Madagascar: A Crate Adventure" ride. Learn about silver screen special effects in the "Lights, Camera, Action"! show. Or spin yourself silly on the "Accelerator" ride.

Explore Singapore's green belt

Exhaust the little tykes with a hike to see city views over Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park and Kent Ridge Park on the Southern Ridges walk.

If the nine-kilometer stretch seems ambitious, pick specific parts of the route. Maps with detailed information are available from the National Parks Board.

For the more active, take a stab at running the full 11-kilometer loop around MacRitchie Reservoir Park or an uphill walk up Bukit Timah Hill.

Escape to Sentosa Island

Keep the kids out of the shopping mall and let them run loose on Sentosa Island.

Get them flying (without wings) at iFly Singapore, surfing the barrel at Wavehouse Sentosa or screaming their lungs out on the MegaZip Adventure Park.

For the younger tykes, head down to Palawan Beach for Sandy Good Times. During the school holidays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., professional sand sculptors will be on hand with their buckets and shovels to teach your kids how to make the sandcastle of their dreams.

Be entertained at the Marina Bay Sands

On rainy afternoons, head indoors to the Marina Bay Sands. Get skates on the little ones and let them zip around the indoor ice rink. For less active kids, sit them down to watch "Wicked" opening on December 6. All kids will be mesmerized by the untold story of the Witches of Oz; it's not a bad production for adults too.

Make friends with the birds at Jurong Bird Park

Now the kids have more than just the birds to keep them busy at the Jurong Bird Park.

The new Birdz of Play playground, a 9,700-square-meter space, is built for kids of all ages and has wet and dry zones, along with seesaws, swings, slides and a Flying Fox.

The park has organized a detailed December school holiday program with creative art and craft stations and a Hatch Day Party.
