Seven things to do in Coron

By FlipNomad for Yahoo! Travel

Palawan is regarded as the Philippines last frontier due to its unspoilt nature. The mainland and the surrounding islands of Palawan are host to idyllic and pristine beaches and tropical forests. Palawan is also known to have a variety of endemic flora and fauna. I've been to Palawan a couple of times and my first trip to this province was spent in Coron.

Coron is a municipality in Northern Palawan famous for its WWII shipwreck diving. It's also becoming one of the hottest tourists' destinations for local tourists due to the availability of domestic flights serving this region.

I find Coron really enchanting and highly recommend to travellers to check these out:

Kayangan Lake

A short boat ride from Coron Town is Kayangan Lake. En route to the lake is a picturesque view of the outlying islands. This is the most photographed (and probably the most iconic) place in Coron.

Twin Lagoons

The scenic boat ride to Twin Lagoons is already a reason good enough to make the trip down. The towering limestone cliffs and the crystal clear water make it an ideal inclusion in your itinerary.

CYC Island

CYC is a small island with white sandy shore and clear waters which makes it very ideal for swimming.

Mt. Tapyas

Hop on a tricycle (local rickshaw) up to the foot of Mt. Tapyas and climb it to get an awesome view of the outlying islands of Coron.

Maquinit Hot Spring

A dip in Maquinit Hot Spring would be a perfect way to relax and chill after a long day of island hopping.

Kinilaw at Bistro Coron

Kinilaw is a local Filipino dish which consists of fish cooked in vinegar and sometimes with coconut milk. I've tried Kinilaw in various places in the Philippines and Bistro Coron is one of the places that serves the tastiest and flavourful Kinilaw.

Cashews at Coron Harvest

I found out that Cashew is one of the main product of Coron and Coron Harvest is one of the sought after stores when it comes to roasted cashews.

And before you leave, do walk around the town to meet and interact with the friendly locals of Coron. My trip to Coron is indeed one of the best that I've had in the Philippines, I'm sure that you'll enjoy it too.
