Things to do with kids in Singapore

By Faz Abdul Gaffa

While Singapore may be touted as a shopping haven, but let's face it - your wee ones wouldn't have as much fun as you would shopping up a storm in this city.

Indulge in the Animal Kingdom

The Singapore Zoo tops the list for obvious reasons. It's "open" zoo concept uses natural barriers like streams, rock walls and vegetation to separate animals from visitors, and kids will love the Rainforest Fights Back shows featuring orang utans, lemurs, otters pea fowls and more. Also, be sure to check out feeding times at your kids' favourite enclosure - a delight for little ones and the big ones alike.

Don't miss out the Night Safari either, and if you're still hungry for wildlife, check out the wildly entertaining Jurong BirdPark.

Tire them out at indoor play centres

Planning a night out with the missus and need to tire the kiddos out? Or is it just raining out and they just won't sit still. Take them to Fidgets at Turf City where a massive indoor playground custom designed by Playtec awaits for children from 0-10. There's dedicated baby and toddler play areas, two party rooms plus a superb cafe full of the latest magazines and newspapers. Then, skip over to Marmalade by the Stables for sumptuous meal.

Take a tour on Singapore Ducktours

What's a ducktour? It's a Vietnamese warcraft that travels both on land and water. It takes you from Suntec City, to various spots around the area, where you get to learn about the history of Singapore in an hour. Kids will be amazed as it surges out of the water and then drives down the road.

Take a hike, or just lounge around on greenery

Enjoy the tropical landscape and bring the kids for a hike up Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, which, in actual fact is a very modest hill, but is the highest point in Singapore. Alternatively, grab your favourite local food from Newton Hawker Centre and then go for a picnic at Botanical Gardens. Kids will love the amount of space they get to run around at, and there are tons of families picnicking on the weekend too.

Let them join the circus

... or at least give the flying trapeze in Sentosa a go. Whether it's to conquer a fear of heights or to take a break from frolicking in the waters of Siloso beach, let them try their hand at it. You can join in the fun too.
