M1 restoring service to affected subscribers

UPDATE

Telco M1 has informed their subscribers through Facebook that services are being restored to the affected customers. The service was down for almost 12 hours since Wednesday morning.

Subscriber Sherman Tan,student, said his service is "halfway back". "Disruptions still occur at about 20-minute intervals," said Tan.

M1 subscribers have expressed through Facebook comments and tweets that they will expect some form of compensation from M1 for the service disruption.

M1 has not announced any form of compensation for its users.

Local telecommunications company M1 has issued a press statement to inform M1 subscribers of the downtime that has been ongoing since Wednesday morning.

The statement reads, "We are experiencing technical difficulty on one of our customer management servers, and mobile services to some of our customers are temporarily disrupted."

M1 also added it is "sorry for the inconvenience to their subscribers and they have deployed resources to rectify the issue".

It appears not all M1 customers have been affected although those that have say they've not been able to make voice calls or use their data services during the lengthy outage that has lasted for several hours now.

Comments left on Yahoo! Singapore's Facebook page by M1 customers said the disruptions is causing them a huge inconvenience.

Hasanah Saliman wrote, "OMG I thought there was something wrong with my phone. So I'm not the only one! I didn't have network coverage since early this morning."

Intan Baiduri Kasih said "Why never inform (subscribers)? I cannot get hold of my daughter and husband."

M1 customers also took to micro-blogging platform Twitter to vent and express their frustrations.

Users Jeffrey Lim (@jefefe) tweeted on hashtag #M1outage, "It has been hours #M1 customer can make outgoing call to fix line..arrghh . Will M1 bill get discounted?"

Another user @TheNooseLite also made light of the situation and tweeted,"Not everywhere under the sun after all" in reference to the company's slogan.

Local deejay Daniel Ong also made jokes about the downtime and tweeted: "M1 had been down all morning! No fun in the sun!

Ong later added another tweet, "Can I complain to my opposition MP you think?"

M1 has confirmed a number of mobile subscribers also have no access to voice and data services.

They are unsure when services will resume though some users have reported that services are back at 3:30pm.
