Singapore's Public Transport Council (PTC) announced on Monday that the buses of both SMRT Buses and SBS Transit have met quality of service (QoS) standards.

Results of the review from June to November last year showed that, when compared to those of the previous six-month period, SBS Transit maintained its performance, while SMRT Buses improved on its bus frequencies, the PTC said in a statement.

The review measured the buses' reliability, loading, safety, availability, integration and information. The operators' buses passed the category of loading, where each service bus shall not exceed 95 percent during weekday peak hours.

Both public transport operators also passed the review on reliability where 85 percent of service buses adhere to their bus schedule with a 5-minute allowance.

"The PTC is pleased that both operators met the QoS standards set, and have also recently undertaken further service improvements to enhance commuters' travel experience on buses," Gerard Ee, chairman of the PTC, said in the statement.

Operators failing to meet these standards can be fined up to $10,000 per month for each standard that is not met.

The next review results will be announced in October 2011.
