#27 Check out the Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany

Want to know what it’s like to vacation in the country in splendour and style? Then spend a day under the Tuscan sun and wander around what used to be the extensive properties of the Medicis – Italy’s powerful Renaissance dynasty, which produced two queens of France and four Popes.

A bonus? The UNESCO World Heritage Site features areas that are open to the public. Built between the 15th and 17th centuries, the villas made up the family’s country estates; now they’re home to museums and even a school.

Meanwhile, the geometric gardens are a treat with its statues, rare plants and flowerbeds, courtyards and fountains. You can catch a bus from the train station in Florence to get here, but there’s also a five-star boutique hotel if you wish to stay longer.

The Montebello Splendid is a 19th century Florentine villa that offers guided tours for guests who wish to know more about other cultural and historical landmarks or places of interest.
