#42 Visit Kaesong in North Korea

You may have an inkling of what South Korea is about; but what of its neighbour? To get an idea of what the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) can offer visitors, consider the city of Kaesong.

About 135 kilometres away from the capital, Pyongyang, and 10 kilometres away from the Demilitarized Zone, Kaesong features traditional architecture, mountains, lush greenery and open spaces, as well as touristy landmarks like a museum, the tomb of a 14th century king, and temples.

It’s quiet and picturesque, giving you a glimpse of what the locals’ lives might be like.

Do note that you can’t go there without a guide, though, and there are certain restrictions… which kind of makes travellers curious enough to want to know more.
