Hotel maid allegedly caught on camera poking through guest’s valuables
A YouTube user known as Vince Stravix claims that a maid in a "brand-name" American hotel he was staying at had gone through his valuables.
He says the video caught on his laptop camera showed the female hotel maid on 5 November going through his Chromebook, luggage, and mail package, before proceeding to clean the room.
He uploaded the four-minute video three days later, hoping to create awareness that “even in a hotel room, someone could rifle through your things without you knowing”.
In a comment, he advises viewers to “password protect everything you own and keep valuables locked up”.
The clip quickly became viral, attracting over 6 million views as of Thursday as well as a stream of comments, some of which were requesting for the name of the hotel to be revealed.
Stravix does not wish to reveal the name, though. “This video was not uploaded to incite a witch-hunt or a boycott. Employees are never 100% controllable and they never will be because people are not robots,” he says.
He did take action though. He reported the incident to the hotel management, who received “all of the uncut footage that day”.
