Man planks over five excruciating hours, breaks world record

Not many people can claim to be able to hold a plank for more than five minutes, much less five hours.

But this man smashed a Guiness World Record on Saturday (30 May) by planking for over five excruciating hours.

In an effort to raise money for injured Marines, former U.S. Marine George Hood held a plank for a staggering five hours, fifteen minutes, and five seconds.

The last record was held by Mao Weidong from Beijing, China, at four hours and 26 minutes.

The 57-year-old Hood had spent the past nine months training for the record attempt, which he hopes can call attention to the men and women serving in the U.S. military.

“There are injured Marines that come back from the fight, who have suffered life-altering injuries and the discomfort that I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they feel,” Hood told NBC San Diego during his record attempt.
