MDA moves to protect consumers from unfavourable changes in pay TV packages

The days of telcos and pay-TV service providers unilaterally making changes to terms of service and forcing subscribers to upgrade unrelated services before being able to subscribe to certain channels may come to an end.

Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA) on Monday announced a move to modify existing rules that would better protect consumers and pay TV subscribers.

Among its recommendations, it said that subscribers should be able to exit contracts without penalties if the terms or prices are altered to their disadvantage.

The agency also said that service providers should be banned from forcing subscribers to upgrade their non-pay TV-related services in order to make changes to their existing pay TV service.

Thai police target 'passport ring' in vanished flight probe

Thai police said Sunday they were investigating a "passport ring" as details emerged of bookings made in Thailand with stolen European passports for the vanished Malaysia Airlines flight.
Two European names -- Christian Kozel, an Austrian, and Luigi Maraldi of Italy -- were listed on the passenger manifest of the flight MH370, but neither man boarded the plane, officials said.
Both had their passports stolen in Thailand over the past two years.

A Vietnamese rescue helicopter has retrieved a floating yellow object from the sea and determined it was not a life raft from a missing Malaysian plane, as was earlier suspected, the country's civil aviation authority said on Monday.

"It has salvaged the object, at the notice and request by Malaysia's rescue centre, 130 km southwest of Tho Chu island. The object has been identified as a moss-covered cap of a cable reel," the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said on its website.

Internal probe into Immigration department, says Home Minister

An internal investigation on Malaysia’s Immigration Department has commenced following reports that two passengers were using stolen passports to board the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370. Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the investigation would give special attention to the department's Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) branch.
"I am puzzled how come (immigration officers) cannot think, an Italian and Austrian (passengers) but with Asian facial features," he told reporters on Monday
