Australia is deploying an autonomous underwater vehicle to scour the seabed of the Indian Ocean for the still-missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, now that its black box signals have gone silent.

At the same time, Joint Agency Coordination Centre head Angus Houston announced that two litres were taken from an oil slick that was found about 5,500m downwind from the search area for testing. The sample will take several days to reach shore, though.

In a statement Monday, N. Surendran, a vice president of Anwar's People's Justice Party, called the case "a frontal assault" on democracy, denouncing the bid for a increased sentence as "selective, vicious and politically motivated".
