A 23-year-old male jumped from the third floor of a residence hall in Nanyang Technological University on Monday afternoon during a visit to his ex-girlfriend.

He landed on a grassy patch and was later taken away to hospital in an ambulance.

Nguyen Thanh, a student at the scene, told Yahoo Singapore that he was in his room at the first floor of Block 15 of NTU’s Residence of Hall 1 when he heard a shout at about 2:30pm.

Construction workers “have a right not to come to work” if they feel that the workplace environment is not safe, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower and Education Hawazi Daipi said in Parliament on Monday.

Hawazi was responding to queries after giving a speech addressing the recent spate of construction workplace fatalities that has struck the city-state.

He added that the Manpower Ministry also encourages whistleblowers to come forward if they feel that their employers have breached duties under the Workplace Safety and Health Act.

Officers in MFA trespass case involving Malaysian teacher face disciplinary action

The officers who last month failed to stop a Malaysian teacher from entering Singapore illegally through the Woodlands checkpoint have been redeployed to non-operational posts pending disciplinary action.

Their supervising officers overseeing operations will also be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action, along with other officers involved in the incident.

This was disclosed by Deputy Prime Minister, Home Affairs Minister and the Coordinating Minister of National Security Teo Chee Hean in Parliament on Monday.

Four Japanese scuba divers were found alive Monday in waters off the Indonesian resort island of Bali three days after going missing, police said, although there was no news of three others who were with them.

A huge search swung into action after the seven women went missing on Friday during their third dive of the day from the island of Nusa Lembongan, just east of Bali.
