Forgotten reservoir uncovered in Telok Blangah

An abandoned reservoir that survived two World Wars has been hiding in the jungle near Mount Faber all this time.

The “forgotten reservoir” has been around since the colonial era and was used as a water source Tanjong Pagar dockyard in the 1900s, said the National Heritage Board (NHB). It was later converted into a swimming pool in 1938, then a reservoir in the 1940s.

A summary judgement hearing against blogger Roy Ngerng has ended with the judge reserving his judgement on Thursday, reported local media.

Justice Lee Seiu Kin will make his decision known at a later date.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong filed for the court application of the summary judgment against Ngerng on 11 July. A summary judgment means that Lee has claimed that Ngerng has no case, and therefore wants judgment in his favour without trial.

Singapore F1 Grand Prix brings Marina Centre to standstill yet again

The Marina Bay Formula One street circuit is illuminated at dusk in Singapore, in this September 17, 2013 file photo. Tropical Singapore is now known as a top-class casino-gambling destination, the venue for the world's first Formula One night race and the bachelor playground of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Clean and safe, the prosperous city-state is also a magnet for high-end shoppers and one of the most diverse food capitals in the world. The Marina Centre area takes on a forbidding stance once the barriers and signages go up. It's F1 week, and you'd best keep out if the roar of the crowds and the smell of the petrol is not your cuppa joe.

Or so the perception goes.

Twenty people savagely murdered in Penang this year are believed to be victims of communal clashes between Muslims and Buddhists from Myanmar.

Police said the latest was the double-murder of two men in their 30s who had their throats slit and their bodies dumped in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Manggis in Bukit Mertajam on Monday.
