Singapore police probe suspected suicide of digital currency exchange CE

Singapore police are investigating the apparent suicide of a 28-year-old American woman who ran a small exchange in the Asian city state trading virtual currencies.

Autumn Radtke, chief executive of First Meta Pte Ltd, was found dead at her Singapore home on February 26. Police said they were investigating her "unnatural" death, and "preliminary investigations showed no foul play is suspected".

Neighbours said they thought Radtke jumped to her death from a residential apartment complex.

National Service could be shortened 'by a few weeks': Defence Minister Ng

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is looking to hire more regulars to conduct full-time National Service training, said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in Parliament on Thursday.

This, in turn, could result in NSF training being more effective, efficient and possibly shorter, he added.

But Dr Ng was quick to say the time savings will be "a few weeks" at most.

COMMENT: Why it’s time to take a good, hard look at wealth inequality in Singapore

Singapore needs to address its drastic wealth inequality in order to, among other things, reduce social tensions, improve social mobility and maintain its commitment to building a fair and just society.

While there has been much discussion about income inequality in Singapore’s recent past, wealth inequality has garnered little attention. This is partly because of a paucity of official data. But a report on global wealth last year by Credit Suisse, an investment bank, suggests that Singapore has one of the biggest wealth disparities in the world.

Sister identifies maid who slit toddlers’ throats

The Malaysian Sungai Buloh double murder cum suicide took a new twist yesterday. A woman believed to be the sister of the maid, who had allegedly murdered two brothers, claimed the maid was not an illegal immigrant.

The woman identified the maid’s body and claimed that the maid’s real name was Ernesta Uto.

She also said that the two sisters had entered Malaysia in 2008 on work permits, and that the boys’ family was supposed to get Ernesta a work permit but never did.

The sister also claimed that since Ernesta started working for the boys’ family in 2012, their family had stopped receiving calls and money from Ernesta.
