Jem mall closes for checks after first-floor ceiling collapses
A 50-metre stretch of Jem mall's first-floor ceiling collapsed Wednesday, forcing staff to evacuate its shoppers. Three women suffered minor injuries. The new shopping mall in Jurong East will remain closed until safety checks have been carried out. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.

Body found along Kallang River bank
The body of a man was found on Thursday morning lying on a grass patch along the Kallang River bank. Police said they received a call for assistance at 10:24am, and paramedics pronounced the man dead on the scene. The police have classified the case as an unnatural death and are investigating.

Nigerian wins Muslim beauty pageant rival to Miss World
A Nigerian woman won a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta Wednesday. The beauty pageant, described as a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger in the country, had 20 contestants, who were all required to wear headscarves and catwalk in embroidered dresses and stilettos.

When a visually impaired customer accidentally dropped a US$20 bill (S$24.88) at a fast food restaurant in the US, a lady picked it up and kept it. After an employee, Joey Prusak, confronted her about her “disrespectful” misdeed, she denied that she had taken his cash. The employee then gave his own US$20 bill to the customer.
