An industry group representing money changers in Singapore on Tuesday urged members to hire armed guards when transporting large sums of money, after two rare robberies in a city-state seen as one of the world's safest places.

Mohamed Rafeeq, secretary of the 150-member Money Changers Association Singapore, said the body has asked its members to hire guards from Certis Cisco, Singapore's biggest private armed security provider.

In a blog post this afternoon, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan highlighted the hard work of the housing board and town council officers who help HDB residents.

Frontline officers have a challenging job. Many of them work tirelessly at the counters, with admirable dedication and determination to provide good service, he said.

Hong Kong authorities on Tuesday prepared to clear part of a key area of the heart of the city that has been occupied by pro-democracy demonstrators for nearly two months.

About 30 court bailiffs arrived at the 33-storey Citic Tower in Admiralty, next to government buildings, to enforce an injunction against the street barricades after a request from the building's owners, witnesses said.

Marina South Pier station to open this weekend
