On top of the Sports Excellence (spex) Scholarship and Peter Lim Scholarship, Singapore’s national athletes now have an additional avenue to obtain financial support for their efforts.
The Singapore Sports Council announced on Monday a separate fund to support local athletes for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games to be held in Singapore.
“We’re mindful that this is a Games carried at home, with an opportunity for local athletes to perform in front of their home audience,” said SSC chief Lim Teck Yin at a media briefing on Monday.

Here are some of the latest updates on the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370: the airlines’ CEO says aircraft transponder switched off at 1.21am, the search area is now 2.2 mil square nautical miles (7.5mil sq km), all countries have been requested to re-look at radar and satellite data to narrow search area. Malaysia’s Acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein has also confirmed that primary radar data from other countries shared but did not mention which countries.

Defiant Putin signs treaty making Crimea part of Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin, defying Ukrainian protests and Western sanctions, on Tuesday signed a treaty making Crimea part Russia but said he did not plan to seize any other regions of Ukraine.
In a fiercely patriotic address to a joint session of the Russian parliament in the Kremlin, Putin lambasted the West for what he called hypocrisy. Western nations had endorsed Kosovo's independence from Serbia but now denied Crimeans the same right, he said.

7 out of 10 Singaporean youths are active in online piracy: survey
Seven out of 10 young Singaporeans aged 16 to 24 are actively downloading music, movies and television shows illegally, according to a survey.
Also, six out of 10 Singaporean adults aged 16 to 64 have admitted to participating in online piracy.
These are some of the key findings released by Sycamore Research and Insight Asia on Tuesday based on a result of a survey done with a total of 900 respondents.

Singapore Sports Council aims to erase ‘authoritative’ image by rebranding as Sport Singapore
The Singapore Sports Council will be called Sports Singapore from 1 April onwards. According to chief Lim Teck Yin at a media briefing on Monday morning, the earlier name had apparently exemplified the government statutory board as “tired”, “authoritative” and “just governance”.
