Malaysian property developers that have ventured into nearby Singapore are feeling the bite of its sluggish property market and the governments stringent curbs, according to media reports.

Developers that have entered the republics housing market include YTL, Sunway, SP Setia IOI Properties and Selangor Dredging Properties Bhd (SDB). But those that have failed to sell more than half of their residential units are the most severely affected, aid experts.

Shophouse investment sales plummeted 76% in 1H14

 


Demand won’t pick up anytime soon.

The country’s stringent property cooling measures are proving to be painful for the niche shophouse market. A report by Cushman and Wakefield revealed that shophouse investment sales plunged to $165m in 1H14, down 75.9% from $685m in the same period last year.

The Johor government will seize Malay reserve land which had fallen into the hands of non-Malays.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said several action plans would be enforced to seize land which rightfully belonged to Malays.

Tension spiked at democracy protests that have gripped Hong Kong for nearly two months as police arrested four men early Wednesday after a small group of activists tried to force their way into the city's legislature in overnight clashes.

The arrests came after authorities cleared some barricades a day earlier from a small section of a site occupied by pro-democracy activists for more than 50 days.

A Singaporean man accused of masterminding an international football match-fixing ring failed in a legal challenge against his detention without trial on Wednesday, his lawyer said.

Businessman Dan Tan, also known as Tan Seet Eng, lodged his plea with Singapore High Court ahead of the one-year anniversary of his jailing in October 2013.
