Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has warned that the haze may worsen next week.

In a strongly-worded Facebook post on Tuesday night, the minister said that hotspots were increasing “dramatically” in Sumatra again.

“Haze may worsen when the winds weaken next week. Some rain expected, but not enough to douse the fires,” added Balakrishnan.

Former narcotics chief Ng Boon Gay, who was recently retired from the public service, will be starting as a consultant with local security firm Certis Cisco in March.

A spokesperson for the firm told Yahoo Singapore he will "help with various aspects of (Certis Cisco's) security business" on a short term contract, without specifying how long exactly it will be.

Late last month, the Public Service Commission (PSC) announced its decision to retire Ng, who was the former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) director before he was charged and acquitted of corruption between 2012 and last year.

Airbus announced its second major aircraft order of the Singapore Airshow with a deal Wednesday to deliver 20 of its superjumbo A380s to leasing company Amedeo.

The 20 planes are worth about $8.3 billion but list prices are often discounted for big buyers.

The order is a boost for the European plane maker because A380 sales have fallen short of expectations.

Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is investigating local conglomerate Keppel Shipyard and one of its sub-contractors for the non-payment of some 120 workers, who nearly went on strike last month.

The Migrant Workers’ Centre reportedly said it stepped in to convince the 100 Bangladeshi and 20 Indian shipyard workers not to go on strike in January, after they said their employer, Akash Engineering and Technology, had not paid them salaries for as long as three and a half months.
