Bobby Valentine to throw first pitch to Joe Torre at Mets' Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony
The New York Mets are bringing back two iconic New York managers in remembrance of 9/11. Former Mets skipper Bobby Valentine will throw out the first pitch to former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre during the Mets' Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony.
Both men managed those teams during the 2001 season. The Mets played the first game in New York following the Sept. 11 attacks, a 3-2 win against the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to the first pitch, Mets players will wear first responder hats during the team's Subway Series game against the Yankees. Mets players from the 2001 team, including Mike Piazza, will attend the ceremony.
The Mets have announced details of their Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony on Saturday.

The Mets are holding a remembrance ceremony on the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were killed after hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center in New York.
Mike Piazza played key role in Mets' first game post 9/11
Piazza played a key role during the Mets' first game in New York following the attacks. With the Mets trailing by a run, Piazza hit a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the team the lead.
Mets fans cheered loudly as Piazza rounded the bases. Piazza has described the moment as an "incredible release of emotion."
