Foreign secretary Dominic Raab has unveiled new powers aimed at people involved in serious human rights abuses and pledged to stop organised criminals from being able to launder their "blood money" in the UK.

Mr Raab said the measures would allow the government to impose travel bans and asset freezes against those who violate human rights without targeting the population of an entire country.

It came as Oliver Dowden, the culture secretary said the government would announce any change to Huawei’s role in the UK’s 5G network within weeks - indicating a new UK intelligence report had found US sanctions have had a “significant impact” on the company’s reliability.
