Boris Johnson will attempt to repair relations with the Trump administration over his Huawei decision as US secretary of state Mike Pompeo arrives in London for talks. Mr Pompeo said there was still a chance for the UK to “relook” at the decision.

The prime minister is facing a rebellion from backbench Tory MPs over approval for the Chinese tech giant to build parts of Britain’s 5G network. Mr Johnson defended the move at PMQs by claiming the new technology was “absolutely vital”.

It comes as MEPs are set to vote through the withdrawal deal and seal the UK’s exit. Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage claimed Brexit was “the beginning of the end” of the EU – but said Britain might still secure a “pretty reasonable” trade deal.
