Jadon Sancho appears closer to leaving Borussia Dortmund after the German club admitted to preparing for life without the England forward.

The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months, though Liverpool are also monitoring his situation.

And the Bundesliga giants’ sporting director Michael Zorc admits work has already started on finding a replacement for their star player.

“Should Jadon leave, we’ll make additions in our attacking department,” Zorc told Kicker.

“There is certainly one or the other players on our radar.”

While Sancho has two years remaining on his contract, this year could represent the best opportunity to maximise their return after paying Manchester City £7 million for the player back in 2017.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is also conscious about the knock-on effect of selling clubs inflating the price of their players should they sell Sancho.

Though he is also considering the sporting loss of Sancho despite the club anticipating a €45m loss for the current campaign and the player’s sale representing an obvious opportunity to balance the books.

“In that case, the price for every player we are interested in will go up by €5 to €10m,” Watzke told Kicker ahead of the German transfer window opening on 5 October.

“If he stays with us, then he stays,” Watzke said. “And this is what we wish for from a sporting perspective.”
