Kota Bharu district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ismail Mat Sidik, said the boy and his parents had just finished supper at a nearby restaurant before the tragedy occurred.

The family made their way to the car park. The boy’s father, 38, after sitting in the driver’s seat, placed his son in the front passenger seat.

“The boy, upon being placed in the front seat, leaned against the door.

“However, his mother then opened the door from the outside, which caused the boy to fall out of the car,” said Ismail.

The father, in a state of panic, accidentally stepped on the accelerator. In the process, the car lurched forward and ran over the boy on the ground.

The family car also grazed into a Proton Persona parked nearby.

Ismail said the boy died at the scene. His remains were brought to the Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II ( HRPZ II) for a post-mortem examination. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
