The Boys showrunner explains why he believes Marvel movies are a "little dangerous"
Amazon Prime Video series The Boys has won praise from fans and critics alike for challenging the superhero genre throughout its series run so far.
With the on-screen superhero world pretty much ruled by Marvel at the moment, The Boys has done a great job at carving out its own niche and offering viewers something a little different.
But while The Boys isn't afraid to call out Marvel and DC, showrunner Eric Kripke has revealed that he actually is a fan of Marvel movies – although he admits that he does have some qualms with them too.

"People might be surprised to know this, but I'm actually a fan of the Marvel stuff," Kripke said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"The filmmaking is often impeccable. I actually really enjoy the humorous tone that a lot of them are written in. They're snarky and fast and glib and I like that style. My issue with them are not the movies themselves, but that there's too many of them overall."
Kripke then went on to explain that he also thinks that the films can also be a "little dangerous", saying that he believes the films sometimes send out the message that you have to "wait for someone strong to come in and save you".

"I sort of believe it's dangerous, not to overstate it or be overdramatic, but it's a little dangerous to train an entire generation to wait for someone strong to come in and save you," he continued.
"That's I think how you end up with people like Trump and populists who say, 'I'm the only one who can come in, it's going to be me.'"
He added: "And I think in the way that pop-culture conditions people subtly, I think it's conditioning them the wrong way — because there's just too much of it.
"So I think it's nice to have a corrective, at least a small one in us, to say, 'They're not coming to save you. Hold your family together and save yourselves.'"
Earlier this month Kripke shared an update with fans about the superhero show's third season.
On Twitter, he posted a photo of the script for the first episode of season three, revealing that it will be titled 'Payback' and that it's been penned by writer-producer Craig Rosenberg.
"#TheBoys Will Return. #Season3 Begins Filming Early 2021.You're Not F**king Ready," he wrote.
The Boys seasons one and two are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video.
