Some braved bold hairstyles while confined to their homes during lockdown, while others couldn’t bear the thought of changing their strands without the help of the professionals.
For those that waited, now is the time to be brave with your post-lockdown hair. Tracy Hayes, Fudge Professional colour genius, has shared with us her predictions now our favourite salons are back open.
“After months of lockdown, we have never before seen so many big roots, natural colour and longer lengths on our clients, who will be open to discuss a new look after weeks of little or no maintenance on their hair,” she smiled.
“I expect to see very little big blow-drys on the street, the appointments for cuts and colour will remain a priority for some time to accommodate all those clients who have been patiently waiting for their stylist and colourist to return to work. With this in mind, I expect to see shorter bob lengths that are more manageable for the clients to look after at home as well as easier to keep clean,” Tracy outlined.
“This is where some fun can be had,” she grinned. “I recommend placing some hidden colour of something bright, contrasting and uplifting within the all-over colour. Work with the balance and layers within the haircut. The colour section could be placed so it is hidden when worn one way, but when pushed to the opposite side/parting a strong flash of colour appears… change your colour with your mood!”
Blondes who would normally be high maintenance looking after their re-growths, whether all over blonde/highlights or balayage, will be first in line for those appointments.
“I expect to see hair rested and in good condition after having a break from any colour services for quite a few months,” Tracy said. “Now is the perfect time to add in some softer subtle blondes, to give more of a sun-kissed feel, rather than such a bleached look – I expect to see lots of this! Think of complementing the skin tone, maybe adding slightly lighter tones around the face to highlight. Remember, you have more natural colour to play with, so you can be creative with your colour placement to create shading within the haircut.”
“For our younger clientele, who would normally change their look without second thoughts, they will either be seeing more of their own colour than ever before or you will be faced with major colour correction, as they couldn’t resist doing a home colour during lockdown,” she shared. Whichever the case, a full consultation is important so colourists and hairdressers can meet their expectations.
“I expect to see lots of pastels and bright colours to make us all smile after coming through this very surreal time… it is the time to have fun and enjoy. Fudge Professional has a great array of semi-permanent colours to experiment with within their Paintbox collection.”
