The BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution opened on September 7 in Xiamen, Fujian Province. Representatives from Brazil, Russia, South Africa, BRICS think tanks, BRICS Business Council, and other countries and institutions gave speeches at the scene or via video.
The BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center and the China-Russia Digital Economy Research Center were also launched during the opening ceremony.
It is learned that in July 2018, at the third meeting of BRICS Industry Ministers, all parties agreed to establish the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (hereinafter referred to as the Partnership). The first meeting of the Partnership Advisory Group was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in December 2018. In September 2019, at the second meeting of the Partnership Advisory Group held in Brasilia, all parties unanimously agreed on the Partnership Work Plan.
At the 12th BRICS Summit on 17 November 2020, President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (referred to as the “BRICS Innovation Center”) in Xiamen, Fujian Province, to carry out cooperation in areas including policy coordination, personnel training, and project development, marking the landing of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution from an initiative.
On September 7, 2021, Xiamen, hailed by President Xi Jinping as a special economic zone of high quality, high appearance, modernization, and internationalization, once again gathered friends and talents from all over the world – representatives of BRICS countries and international organizations to host the 2021 BRICS Partnership Forum on New Industrial Revolution and the launch ceremony of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center.
Since the official launch of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center, Xiamen City has successively released two batches of 60 key task lists, built seven new industrial revolution enabling platforms, and launched 39 demonstration benchmark projects in the field of the new industrial revolution with the strong support of various national ministries and commissions, Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, and all relevant parties.
The total investment amount of the 28 projects signed this time is up to 13.404 billion yuan. The contracted projects cover a wide range of industries, with cooperation centered on new industries and related services. Among them, there are 5 software information projects, 7 technical services projects, 1 fund project, 2 logistics and transportation projects, 7 economy and trade projects, 5 industrial services projects, and 1 cultural industry project. The projects and the business cover a wide range of BRICS countries, including 19 in Russia, 13 in India, 16 in Brazil, and 11 in South Africa.
