We’re pretty sure that Britain’s Got Talent magician Richard Jones could make his £250k prize money disappear but, in a move that will no doubt surprise his fans once again, the star has opted to save his winnings.
The 26-year-old star, who won the tenth series of the TV talent show last year, has admitted that he’s managed to keep hold of the staggering sum, only dipping into the jackpot to purchase a designer handbag for his sister.
Richard explained to BANG! Showbiz (via The List): “I bought my sister a Michael Kors handbag – it’s the one she wanted. When I went for my first audition I think it was just by pure chance, I think she was shopping that day, and said if you win will you get me this handbag and I didn’t think I’d win but obviously I had to get the handbag.”
He continued: “That’s all [I’ve bought]. I haven’t really bought anything with the prize money yet.
“I’ve not really had time to think about it, the only thing I’m thinking about at the minute is building on things and making sure everything is going well for the show. I haven’t really had time to sit back and think about the winnings or anything yet.”
And even when Lance Corporal Jones finally gets an opportunity to take a break from his jam-packed schedule, it looks as though he still won’t be tempted to go on a shopping spree.
He added: “I don’t want to waste it, I want to make sure I use it in a positive way to carry on what I’m doing magic-wise, showcasing my [talents].”
Aside from his spot at the Royal Variety Performance last December, Richard has been busy preparing for his first UK tour ‘The Power of Imagination’, which starts in April, and has even landed his own telly show ‘Operation Magic’, due to air on ITV later this year.
We wish Richard all the best for his future endeavours.
