'Broforce' given October 15 release date

High fives and explosive action in "Broforce"

"American's favorite freedom simulator" is set for an October 15 release, as full-blooded action game and straight-faced satire "Broforce" prepares to storm Mac and PC ahead of a console debut on PlayStation 4.

That PS4 launch is anticipated for early 2016, while a discounted and steadily updated work-in-progress version of the Mac and PC game has been available via Steam's Early Access program from April 2014, where its user reviews have been classified as being "Overwhelmingly Positive."

Prototyped for a 2012 game jam, Ludum Dare 23, "Broforce" was initially known as "Rambros" before South African studio Free Lives turned it into the explosive action fest it is today via a succession of online Brototypes.

The roster has expanded considerably since an original mid-2012 lineup of Rambro, Brommando, B.A. Broracus and Brodell Walker, pillaging a host of movies and TV shows primarily from the 1980s and 90s.

Two dozen male and female bros have been added in with everyone from The Brominator and Bronan the Brobarian to Brobocop, Ellen Ripbro, and Double Bro Seven joining up to help defeat Action Movie America's biggest enemy: Corporate Satan.

Rather than crack down on such liberal appropriation of Hollywood's one-man and one-woman armies, film distributor Lionsgate then asked Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital to create free spin-off "The Expendabros" in time for its 2014 action hero ensemble, "The Expendables 3."
