Bubba Watson out 4-6 weeks with torn meniscus after PGA Championship

Bubba Watson will be out for at least a month due to a torn meniscus.

The 12-time PGA Tour winner announced on Instagram on Monday that he had sustained a torn meniscus and will spend 4-6 weeks recovering. He withdrew from this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, and will likely be out of commission at least until after the U.S. Open.

“I’ve been fighting through some knee issues and I’m disappointed to say I have to pull out of the Charles Schwab Challenge this week. My doctors have confirmed that I have a torn meniscus,” he wrote, in part. “We’re figuring out treatment options, but it’s looking like a 4-6 week recovery before I can get back to playing.”

Watson finished T30 at the PGA Championship last week at Southern Hills, and fired an impressive 7-under 63 on Friday. The 43-year-old said last week that his latest knee injury was just the latest he’s had to deal with in recent years.

“I’ve had a lot of issues over the last couple of years,” Watson said, via the Tour. “Had a lot of [Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy] done on my wrist, PRP done on my knees. I’ve had a lot of issues.”

He has two top 25 finishes so far this season, at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the WM Phoenix Open. His last win came at the 2018 Travelers Championship, which marked his third win at that event. Watson currently sits at No. 69 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Though it’s unclear when Watson will be able to return specifically, a return in time for the British Open in mid-July would be a good goal assuming his recovery goes well.
