Bukit Beruntung tragedy: Search and rescue op halted


RAWANG: The search and rescue operation for the two missing boys in the Bukit Beruntung fishing tragedy has been called off for the day due to bad weather.

A fire and rescue department spokesman said SAR personnel have been ordered to stand down at 7pm and will resume their search on Sunday at 8am.

In the 5pm incident yesterday, eight boys fishing next to a bridge at a river in SKC Kampung Timah, were suddenly swept away by strong currents.

So far, only Muhammad Shahir Azman, 12 survived.

Since the search and rescue operation began yesterday, the bodies of five of the boys have been recovered.

Two however, Muhammad Ikhwan Muhammad, 10 and Mohd Aiman Kamarul, 12, are still missing.
