Last week’s driver who was at the helm of a careening public bus through Kuala Lumpur’s busiest streets has today plead guilty to being under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred.
And yes, of course he was on meth.
To those who are still asking:The Rapid KL bus 221 (Keramat LRT > Ampang Point) knocked a car, burger stand, a woman…
On Thursday evening, 32-year-old Md Khairol Anuar Mohamad, was recorded driving haphazardly through rush-hour traffic along Jalan Ampang, subsequently crashing into several cars before coming to a halt, and then attempting to flee the scene on foot. He was stopped by several citizens, among them a man who chased down the 221 RapidKL bus, while recording the situation via mobile phone.
Footage of the scene, from beginning to end, was quickly uploaded onto social media and went viral within hours.
Khairol’s plea carries a jail term of up to two years, as well as a three-year probationary period following release. Alternatively, he could pay a fine of RM5,000, should the judge allow.
Bail was granted at RM3,000 (US$730), while the suspect’s wife looked on from the docks.
Final judgements will be made in late September regarding the driver’s fate.
