Would you buy a Mercedes pick-up?

IT’S RUGGED, POSH and eligible for a Category C COE. Meet the Mercedes-Benz pick-up, a new model the brand will launch by the end of the decade. It will, says, the company, the first such commercial vehicle from a premium brand.

The Merc pick-up will be designed and engineered by the company’s van division, but will offer car-like features to give it broad appeal.

“We can perfectly serve customers looking for a vehicle that offers a high level of utility and at the same time has the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car,” says Volker Mornhinweg, the head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Mercedes says that more and more pick-ups are being used for private purposes. Commercial as well as private users are also asking for vehicles that have car-like specifications.

A pick-up truck should “contribute nicely” to Mercedes’ growth in sales, says Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche.

Mercedes-Benz is aiming its own pick-up at certain markets, namely Latin America, South Africa, Australia, and Europe.
