A duo representing American media brand BuzzFeed recently tried Singapore McDonald’s food and were very impressed by the Asian flair of the dishes.

Reporters Annie and Steven dug into a whole range of McDonald’s food unique to Singapore, including the much-hyped Nasi Lemak Burger, beloved McSpicy, and Cheesy loaded fries with bacon bits.

Overall, the visitors were pleasantly surprised by the items. “I thought it would be the same, but everything was better and juicier,” said Steven at the end of the video.

“Everything had a slight Asian flair to it,” Annie added.

Their food choices were advised by Aiken Chia and Sylvia Chan from Night Owl Cinematics (NOC), a production company based in Singapore and known for its popular YouTube channel.

Steven in particular really liked the Nasi Lemak Burger. “It’s actually really good, kinda confusing though,” he said. He added that the egg was the best part.

Annie said that she liked the “sour” taste of the burger, which was probably due to the piquant sambal sauce, although she found cucumber in a burger “weird”.

They were warned about how spicy the McSpicy would be but both found they were okay with it. Annie was intrigued by how the burger looked. “Why does it look so substantial? It looks like the promotional pictures,” she said.

However, and – heresy! – they did not like the McDonald’s curry sauce and felt McDonald’s Singapore’s ice cream tasted exactly like the American soft-serve version. Finally, they felt that the cheesy fries did not look very impressive but tasted pretty good with the bacon and cheese.
