KUALA LUMPUR: Some 15 Bank Rakyat staff members will be participating in the New Straits Times (NST) C-Cycle Challenge, which will be held tomorrow.
The participants include employees from Bank Rakyat headquarters and branches around the city.
Marketing and Communications senior vice-president Nizam Sani said Bank Rakyat, as the co-sponsor of the cycling event, had always shown support towards sporting activities such as cycling.
“The collaboration is a part of our initiative to support this sporting event organised by a media company.
“We also see this programme as a means to strengthen our relationship with the the New Straits Times Press (NSTP), which has always highlighted programmes by Bank Rakyat.
“This is the first time that we are involved in such a sporting activity with the media.”
Nizam also said Bank Rakyat was hoping that such an event would continue in the future as an annual activity, adding that it would also attract more people to participate in cycling events.
The race kits were handed over to the bank staff by NSTP advertisement sales assistant manager Raja Nurul Hidayah Raja Nordin yesterday.
The much-anticipated inaugural event, organised in partnership with Eco World Development Group Berhad, and co-sponsored by Bank Rakyat and Volkswagen, will be held at Eco Grandeur in Puncak Alam.
About 1,200 participants have collected their race kits yesterday.
The kits contain a drawstring backpack, race jersey, cycling cap, race plate and bib number for the Century Ride category, while the Fun Ride category consisted of a drawstring backpack, T-shirt and plate number. The event will be flagged off at 7.30am and participants must be at the starting point, Eco Grandeur, 20 minutes before the flag-off.
