Cabinet To Decide On Taman Rimba Kiara Project’s Fate
Of the 3.2ha for the proposed development, 1.6ha will be designated as housing for the longhouse residents, while the other 1.6ha was already rezoned for mixed development.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abd Samad said the Cabinet will decide – likely in April – whether to cancel the proposed project at Taman Rimba Kiara, Kuala Lumpur and pay the developer a RM150 million compensation, reported The Star.

“I will prepare the paperwork on the project and bring it to Cabinet for their decision,” he stated after the launch of My Clean Housing Programme at PPR Beringin in Jinjang Utara, Kuala Lumpur.

He revealed that the proposed development’s size had already been reduced to 3.2ha from 4.9ha previously.

“Of the 3.2ha for the proposed development, 1.6ha will be designated as housing for the longhouse residents, while the other 1.6ha was already rezoned for mixed development,” explained Khalid.

Meanwhile, the remaining 1.6ha will be transformed into an open space.

He noted that the remaining green lung at Taman Rimba Kiara is still fairly large at 6.9ha, even with the presence of the proposed development.

There is also the nearby Kiara Federal Park (Taman Persekutuan Kiara) reserve.

“Personally, I feel it’s reasonable to continue with the development of the scaled-down project since it will include construction of housing for the longhouse residents,” said Khalid.

“Instead, the money that will be used to compensate the developer can be used to buy land and build parks in other areas that need it.”

Residents at Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) have been protesting against the proposed development of a luxury condominium at Taman Rimba Kiara, which will include eight blocks of 42- and 54-storey high-end serviced apartments as well as a 29-storey tower with 350 affordable homes for the relocation of TTDI longhouse residents.
