Call The Midwife season nine is almost over, and of course, we can expect to be moved by the series finale.

The penultimate episode of the series was full of tension, given it's become apparent Dr McNulty is struggling with a prescription drug addiction, Nurse Crane is finding it hard to deal with her many commitments and Nurse Dyer's grandmother in prison is suffering with ill health.

Now, preview pictures ahead of the final episode are hinting at more turbulent times for Nurse Val (Jennifer Kirby), as she can be seen looking concerned and being comforted by Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi).

The preview pictures also hint at a rough time for new character Dr McNulty (Lee Armstrong) after it's become clear he has an addiction to prescription drugs. He can be seen looking pensive in the surgery.

Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) and Shelagh (Laura Main) are busy working - unsurprising given the huge pressure they've been under lately.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Thankfully, Nurse Lucille (Leonie Elliott) and Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) are looking close again after a period of being too busy to spend time together.
