From Town & Country

Candice Bergen has been acting since she was twenty and throughout her 54-year Hollywood career, she's won Emmys (5), Golden Globes (2), and was the first woman to be inducted into Saturday Night Live's coveted Five-Timers Club. Then a few years ago, the septuagenarian unexpectedly became an Instagram sensation: her daughter, the writer—and T&C contributor—Chloe Malle, asked mom to decorate her Louis Vuitton duffle, which she then posted on Instagram.

The requests started pouring in, and a new business, called BergenBags, was born. Stylish women everywhere sent in their Goyard totes and Hermès
Kellys for Bergen to personalize with her quirky painted illustrations for a fee that went to charity.

The one that started it all:

Now, for those who want even more of the whimsical Candice Bergen touch can turn to her latest venture: Candice Bergen Art Stuff. The new line includes phone cases, t-shirts, mugs, pillows, and socks imprinted with her illustrations. The proceeds, of course, all go to charity.

For our weekly Connoisseur column, the actress and artist spoke to T&C about the products, designs, and places she loves, trusts, and uses everyday.

Thing you love to collect

I think it’s safe to say I collect shoes. Mostly, they're Tod's, but I have a few pairs of Louboutin flats with faces and feathers and sequins that I have very strong feelings for.

Your greatest purchase of the year

I'm building a barn in Connecticut near my daughter and her husband. A little too near for her taste. I never built a house from scratch and it's a fascinating process. Gil Schafer is my architect and Deborah Nevins is the landscaper. It will be my perfect little spot. The Holy Grail of design.

Daily grooming rituals

Wipe face with hot washcloth. Cleanse with tonic. Apply serum. Then eye cream and moisturizer. These are usually products from La Mer or Mila Moursi, my facialist when I’m in L.A. I don’t do anything else. No masks or special potions. Too much time and too boring.

One piece of jewelry you never take off

Three rings by Darlene de Sedle which she makes in a heavy 22 carat gold. These are set with black opals and one is just a thick, simple pinky ring. Black opals give off light that moves and flashes and seems alive. I think they're a magical stone and love their mystery. I wear them every day.

Favorite store in your city

E.A.T. Boutique in New York, which has endless funny stuff that’s right up my alley. In Paris, it's Au Bain Marie.

Favorite restaurant in your city

Majorelle. The most beautiful and delicious dining experience in the city.

Favorite hotel in the world

Claridge’s, London.

Go-to hostess gift

Beach tunics, pareos, and fun jewelry from Roberta Freymann's Roller Rabbit in Brentwood. I've known her since she opened.

If you had to take just one thing with you in a fire

My rescue dog, Bruce.
