Cannes' jury defends Jaclyn Jose
24 May - Members of the jury has recently defended Filipino actress Jaclyn Jose following criticism about her winning Best Actress at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
As reported on ABS-CBN News, the criticisms were first reported on Indie Wire and Variety, which stated that many were stunned upon the jury's choice of Jose as Best Actress for her performance in "Ma' Rosa" - since it was thought to be a supporting role and was deemed "too small to merit the award". However, jury members Donald Sutherland and Mads Mikkelsen quickly came to her defense and explained the reason why she was chosen to win the award.
"The critics were wrong. It's a big-time leading role," said Sutherland.
"We found her to be a wonderful leading actress, a master of her skills. It was not a supporting character," echoed Mikkelsen.
Aside from Sutherland and Mikkelsen, the other members of the jury include "Mad Max" director George Miller, French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis, Hollywood star Kirsten Dunst, and Iranian producer, Katayoon Shahabi.
