KUALA LUMPUR: One person died when a Honda City crashed and burned in an accident at KM16.7 of the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) headed towards Kuchai Lama earlier today.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director, Khirudin Drahman, said the authorities were alerted to the incident at 4.07am.

“Seven firemen in two engines from the Pantai station were deployed to the location.

“Upon arrival, the team found a Honda City already in flames.

“Firemen took around five minutes to put out the blaze. The car was totally destroyed,” he said.

Khirudin said, checks on the car showed charred remains of a person in the driver’s seat.

“The victim’s identity or gender could not be determined due to the body’s badly charred condition.

“The case has been handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

The authorities believe that the driver of the car may have lost control of the vehicle and smashed into the road divider.

“The impact may have set the car ablaze.

“The driver could have been pinned in the seat and left unable to escape,” he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
