The 2020 CMT Awards are airing on Wednesday, October 21, and the performance lineup is pretty stacked with country music's biggest stars. Shania Twain, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, and Sam Hunt are all among the artists who have a performance slot.

One familiar name, however, is glaringly absent from the list: Carrie Underwood. Fans immediately reacted to the news that she wouldn't be performing, despite scoring huge nominations in both the "Video of the Year" and "Female Video of the Year" for her song "Drinking Alone."

On Twitter, fans didn't hesitate to express their concern and frustration:

Another chimed in with: "I am praying that Carrie Underwood gets both the awards she is up for. Female and video of the year. Still can't believe that she not going to perform. Just doesn't seem right."

Fans on Instagram were also upset, and added comments to CMT's IG announcement about the performance lineup for the show posted earlier this month:

"No @carrieunderwood performing?! Guess there’s no need for me to tune in. 😔😔😔😔😔 @cmt"

While there's no telling what a busy star like Carrie is up to instead, we do know that she's been busy recently with the release of her first-ever holiday album, My Gift, and performed an epic medley of old-school country hits at last month's ACM Awards. (Plus, she tied for Entertainer of the Year with Thomas Rhett!). So it's likely she's just busy with other projects.

Either way, we hope she can take the stage next time!
